The Stott ® Pilates Difference in West Bridgford and Gamston

I am delighted to be running Pilates classes locally. It’s been a busy & enjoyable year so far and I have enjoyed seeing regulars making great progress and enjoying their practise.

The repertoire of Pilates on the Mat focuses on STOTT PILATES® matwork based exercises, including small equipment, offering modifications that cater to many different body types and abilities. Classes are suitable for all levels with Wednesday 19:30 being slightly more intermediate level. Classes places a strong emphasis on scapular (shoulder-blade) stabilization, lumbo-pelvic placement and postural alignment, and optimal muscle activation - quite a mouthful!

Overall, my aim is to offer classical Pilates classes with a friendly and approachable focus.

I enjoy teaching smaller groups to ensure good form and technique, get to know everyone on an individual basis and importantly, teach the method of Pilates not just the movement. Best wishes Ann

Friday Classes Not Running:

dates for your diary

Reminder, no Friday class Oct 24th due to half term. If you would like a class next week, I have one space open Wednesday 18:30 & 19:30 (same room/venue).

Equally, no Friday classes November 21st as I travel to London KX Stott Pilates Teacher Training centre for some new Stott Pilates ® qualifications (watch this space). Each year I invest in further accreditations to maintain and deepen my knowledge of Pilates and I will be offering bespoke workshops in these areas in 2026 for those of your interested.

With no Friday class on the 21st November, there are options to join the Wednesday evening (Tennis club) or daytimes classes (Paxdien, 10am). Please let me know if this is of interest.

All classes run until December 19th and return Jan 2026 prior to Xmas holiday.

Exercise of the month - Swimming

Each month a new exercise will be introduced in the series and we will have a deeper dive into the exercise goals, purpose and technique.

Starting Position is on your front laying down on mat. Legs extended, hip-distance apart and slightly rotated outwards. Pelvis and spine neutral. Toes pointed. Arms extended on mat along mat, shoulder-distance apart. Palms down, shoulder blades stable.

Prepare - inhale (engage core)

Exhale - maintain pelvis neutral and extend upper spine and hips (gaze down), reaching arms and legs off mat (hip - shoulder height).

Then, inhale for five counts and exhale for 5 counts with reciprocal arm/leg swimming action. Use full five counts to breathe.

3-5 sets

To slow it down and work on technique (essential level) work legs first only. Single leg extensions only and then a double leg extension (keep legs low). Squeeze bottom gentle and stay neutral, use core. Then practise the small upper body ‘hover’ .
